GoPro HD Surf Hero2
The GoPro HD Surf Hero camera was inspired by Nick Woodman when he was on a surf trip in remote Australia. Traditional camcorders were too big to use while surfing and in order to film you needed a person to shoot you. And anyways, who wanted to shoot video or photos when the waves were good?
The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing tournament in 2011 marks a big moment in GoPro history. Sunny Garcia was the first professional surfer to use the GoPro HD Surf Hero2 in a live competition. The GoPro HD Surf hero was mounted to the nose of his surfboard during his heat in 6-8 foot Sunset Beach, Hawaii. As you can see from the frame-grabs of his footage, the quality is superb. Can you imagine a live feed using a GoPro camera of surfers getting barreled at a contest? Let’s hope in the future that GoPro makes this possible.
